An Inventive Start

It was the 1950’s and Bert and Dawn Hansen were building their house, where they couldn’t find a reliable toilet valve. Bert, driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, invented a solution. This marked the beginning of a venture that expanded into Bert developing a range of high-performing Brass Foot and Check valves.  After securing a patent for their design, it fast became a benchmark for industry standards. Today the original design Bert created is used in a multitude of valves in hundreds of markets around the world.

As the success of their valves soared, Bert and Dawn worked tirelessly to meet the increasing demand. Their garage was the hub of their business with all the machining, assembling and packing carried out there. In those early days, Dawn remembers having to pack up the car and take all the fittings down to the railway station for distribution.

In the mid-1980s, the business received a boost of enthusiasm and fresh ideas when Carl Hansen (Bert and Dawn’s Son) arrived from completing his engineering trades. Carl’s engineering expertise and his inclination towards using advanced manufacturing technologies and materials added even more strength to the Hansen Company. Responding to market needs, Bert and the team made the decision to design and produce a range of True Fit Threaded Fittings.

As the Hansen range of products grew rapidly, the company outgrew the garage set up, prompting a move to a dedicated manufacturing plant to incorporate injection moulding into their production processes. This move was a huge investment and there were many sleepless nights in the Hansen households. The move proved to be the right decision and it wasn’t long before there was demand for Hansen products from all over the world. The 1990s saw the products develop a stronger following, with many of the original products having upgraded to high performance materials and the core ranges growing every year. “At one point it felt like we were adding fitting configurations every month” recalls Carl Hansen. By 1999, Hansen Products had outgrown its premises, necessitating a move to larger facilities in Whangarei New Zealand. This location has since accommodated the company’s continued growth and remains the heart of Hansen Products.

The turn of the millennium saw Hansen Products continue the path of constant improvement; Irripod was purchased, the Easy Fit Compression range was created after much encouragement from the market our Full Flow Ball Valve was released. In the last 10 years our in-house Research and Design team has developed several new products in addition to the already extensive range for release including the Australian Rural Fittings which were specifically designed for Aussie rural pipe, tank accessories, trough valves, wash down nozzles and many more.

2012

Hansen Products in-house Research and Design team develop several new products for release, the Level Alert Heavy Duty Tank Level Indicator, the Leveller Tank/Reservoir Valve, Superflo Piston Valve and the Maxflo Diaphragm Valve. At Hansen we believe the Superflo and Maxflo valves have become the next industry standard of High Performance Float Valves.

2013

Hansen released the Easy Fit Compression Fittings range designed specifically for joining Medium Density polyethylene pipe.

2014

Hansen released the compact Fastflo Trough Valve & the ingenious Han-Tool used to determine which Easy Fit Poly or Compression fitting will fit your pipe.

Hansen released its new range of Easy Fit ID Compression Fittings to fit HDPE and LDPE Pipe. A couple months later they released a new range of IBC Tank Fittings for IBC Tanks/Containers.  

All these products have been designed for high performance whilst still staying true to Bert’s original philosophy of “Keep it Simple”.
